Some time ago I asked for feedback on the idea of starting a music podcast. The response was quite supportive and I just wanted to give you a quick update on where things are at.
I’m extremely pleased to say that The Habañero Hour is on its way! My good friend Mark (Eldon) WhiteN and I have been diligently slaving behind the scenes to bring you the best money can buy. Actually, it will be free to you so that’s not exactly true and I don’t know that I’d say we’ve been “slaving,” but we have been doing quite a bit.
We have been getting permissions from a variety of artists for the debut episode, putting together a website which we hope to unveil soon, creating logos, recording, re-recording, editing, uploading and every tedious step in between. We are excited for you to hear some of the music we love.
The concept centers around the idea of Christian-themed music. Some of it is made by Christians, some of it is not. Some of it is outside “CCM” and some of it is not. Taken together, all of it challenges the idea of Christians having their own, separate music and the criteria that we often accept for what is and what is not “Christian” music. The music crosses genres and, hopefully, will not fit your expectations. Above all, we think it’s good music.
We’re looking forward to exposing you to some of the artists who fill our ears and some of the thoughts that fill their heads. We will often feature interview segments along with music. The first episode features segments from my interview with Steven Delopoulos. The second episode will draw from my interview with Bill Mallonee and will feature a segment called the “Moment of Truth,” highlighting biblical truth found in unexpected places. I’m incredibly pleased to say that for the first installment of that segment, we will feature an exclusive interview with Glen Phillips, of Toad the Wet Sprocket, regarding his song “Thank You” and his take on the song being understood in a “Christian” context.
As we continue to prepare, I’d like to ask for your help. If you are, or have contact with any artists who you think would be a good fit, please let us know. I can’t guarantee we’ll play everything sent our way, but we’d love to consider it. We are being very intetnional about having explicit permission for everything that we play. Also, if you have a blog or a website, when it comes time, I’d like to ask that you consider helping promote, but we’ll have more on that when the time is closer. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Stay tuned, hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
oooo….Glen Phillips!
is a full-length interview in teh works?
Can’t wait!
I ran across a band about a year ago that I think would fit your show well. They’re not a “Christian band” (and don’t like the label at all) but have some great music, and show a definite Christian influence in what they write. http://www.ellerymusic.com/
I had permission to use some of their music, but lost it in my great hard-drive crash, so I never played them.
They’ve also got some free Christmas music still up at their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/ellerymusic).
Looking forward to the podcast!
Warren
Awesome! You gotta get NoonDaySun on there!!! http://www.myspace.com/noondaysunnds
Best wishes with it all!
super excited about this Brent…can’t wait
No plans at this point for a full Glen Phillips interview. He’s in the middle of mixing an EP right now before heading out for tour. I wanted at least initially to focus just on that song, which we did. It was a very interesting conversation. I can’t wait for you to hear it!
The interviews have been on hold a bit as we make preparations for the podcast. I do have two that were done by e-mail that I’m waiting to be returned and some more being scheduled, so stay tuned!
