Well over a year ago I switched from Blogger to WordPress for various reasons I won’t go into here. Overall I’ve been quite pleased, but one of the big downfalls seems to be the lack of ability to perform a spellcheck. WordPress users, please help me! Am I just missing something obvious? Is there a plugin I need? Is there a way to spellcheck in WordPress without having to export to a Word document, or first creating in Word? I know there must be something that I’m just missing. Or at least I hope that’s the case. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don’t know about Wordpress, but a good browser spellchecks everything you enter in a text box. :)
Google turned up a couple of options when I searched for “wordpress spellcheck plugin”. The most promising looked like this one.
Have a great weekend!
Dude — I’m assuming you use Firefox — if not, get it! Once you have Firefox, you can download the Greasemonkey plug-in that will spell check everything you write online. You can even do a right-click and get suggested spellings. There’s also an ESV component to Greasemonkey that will give you links to all the Bible verses you come across on any page you’re reading. Good stuff.
I do use Firefox. I upgraded to v2.0.0.6 (I was running 1.5) and that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks guys! Turns out all I needed was a newer version of Firefox I guess. It does still seem odd that WordPress doesn’t have a native spell-check option, but oh well. Thanks guys!
I really urge you to reconsider. Microsoft Word is awesome, especially v. 2007.
I use wordpress (and like you, I have my own domaine) and I have spellcheck. It’s always been there - no plugin.
In your Visual Post Editor, there’s a button between the “More” button (looks like a dotted line between two rectangles) and the “Help” button (blue circle with the question mark). It’s the next to last button on that toolbar.
The spellcheck button says ABC with a check mark.
Hope that helped.
Amanda, I don’t have that option. I wonder if I’m using a different version of WordPress? Is your WordPress self-hosted (is it on your computer) or do you access it online?
Brent, upgrade to the latest version of WP. It’s there. Amanda’s right- always has been for me. Between the help button on the right and the split post button on the left. On the same bar where you find bold, italics, etc.
But Firefox works just as well.
Whoa, little fella; you’re not speaking my language.
I’m still languishing in the stone age of blooger, so you’ll get no help from me.
I thought about going to wordpress, but I was told that should I do so … the terrorists have already won.
I’m hosted through godaddy.com, and I think I’m running WP 2.0.
best. comment. thread. ever.
(part. the steve ballmer quote)
I recently purchased a domain through 1and1.com for my business and it came with a blog in addition to the main web page, which uses Wordpress 2.2.1 (I think it said). I have the spell check button as well. So I wonder if Amanda and I have it because the people we are hosted with put it there… ?
