Tonight we started our annual Vacation Bible School. Please pray that God would be glorified, that His kingdom would expand and that men, women, boys and girls would come to know Him as the supreme treasure. We are using the Desiring God curriculum Things Hidden: A Study for Children on Kingdom Parables, written by Sally Michael.
This is our third annual VBS and we have used the Desiring God curriculum each year. I can’t say enough good things about how theologically sound and yet accessible this curriculum is. I’ve included some photos so you can get an idea of what this year’s VBS looked like on our opening night. Yes, those are my two oldest sons with colored mohawks (colored for their VBS team colors).
We covet your prayers (not necessarily because of the mohawks).

Have your written any reviews on this curriculum? I would love to read them over. We are using CDG in several Sunday school classes but have not yet tried their VBS material.

I’ve not had a chance to write a review of the curriculum, though this is our third year using it and we’ve used their Sunday School curriculum for many years. I do hope this week to talk more about the curriculum itself and plan on tomorrow just offering a bit of insight from the introduction about why we don’t incoporate an altar call into our VBS program.

Tony,
As a parent and teacher, I can say that I’m grateful that we have this fantastic curriculum. The VBS material is just as solid, grounded, scripture and truth filled, and foundational as the Sunday School curriculum.

And yes, those are the pastor’s kids with the mohawks!

Kristi, I would love to see a picture where you outfit the kids with fake Brent-beards on their chins to go with the mohawks. That kind of symmetry would rule, especially in orange!
Dylan saw that picture last night and said he wants orange hair.

Jim, we miss you guys! Tell Harmony hi for me! I really don’t think that the fake beard chin thing is going to happen. I’m not too fond of it on their daddy, but don’t tell him I said that. :)

I’m sure we can keep it from him that you said that!

We certainly miss you too! Our fondness for you both comes up from time to time in conversations with folks you’ve never met. It’s just so neat to see and speak of God’s faithfulness to your family. Though, sometimes it’s merely talking about our shared experience with crazy dogs!
