Poetry and Music Friday
I am convinced that Christians must regain an appreciation for the arts in light of and for the sake of Gospel. To that end, I take some time on Fridays to highlight the pursuit of creativity. In doing so, I regularly link to Joe Kennedy, Will Turner, Timmy Brister, Steve McCoy, Joe Thorn, who post photographs on Fridays, along with the Friday Flickr Group in which they participate.
Sorry, no poetry today. My laptop was in the shop for a day (yes, even Macs need occasional maintenance!) and I just haven’t had time to gather anything together. Sorry about that. But, don’t worry, don’t cry, there is music! Like last week, there is no actual download today. Instead, I want to share with you a video for Dustin O’Halloran’s Opus 23 from his second volume of solo piano material. Some of you may recognize O’Halloran’s name as one-half of the group Devics. O’Halloran has also recorded two albums of solo piano material drawing heavily from influences such as Debussy and Satie.
O’Halloran’s website says that the album was “Recorded alone in Italy on a 1930s restored Swiss Sabel piano” and that O’Halloran “first began classical training on the instrument at age 7. Six years of lessons were abruptly interrupted when he relocated to live with his father. O’Halloran would not touch the piano again for over a decade.” We’re all thankful that he did pick up the piano again. O’Halloran was hand selected to write the score for Sofia Coppala’s Marie Antoinette.
I have the first release and have found it to be a constant comfort. Anyone wanting to increase their joy by purchasing the second release for me would be greatly appreciated. The video is beautifully animated by Marco Morandi. Enjoy:
